I am always on the lookout for ways to lower the barrier for people to not only start blogging, but also to help them retain ownership of their content and keep it evergreen. I spent some time with Pandoc to create a simple little blogging framework that I am calling Panblog.
Pandoc calls itself the universal document converter. The website describes it as, “If you need to convert files from one markup format into another, pandoc is your swiss-army knife.” Then, it goes on to list several dozen document formats that it can support converting to and from. For this little project, I was most interested in converting from markdown to HTML.
Is it perfect? Absolutely not. Is it a borderline hack slapped together with digital duct tape? Probably. But, it does prove that just about anyone can create their own digital space with a minimal amount of tooling.
